Microdermabrasion is a progressive, non-invasive procedure for skin resurfacing. Its purpose is to exfoliate and remove a layer of dead cells from the epidermis. The cellular regeneration process causes an increase in fibroblast activity and tissue oxygenation.
Microdermabrasion works by encouraging cells to renew the basal layer of the epidermis and promote the production of collagen and elastin. As a result, it plumps up the skin and gives the skin a much younger appearance. The procedure is painless, and successful in dramatically reducing, if not totally removing the appearance of small scars, stretch marks, large pores, and hyper pigmented spots. Furthermore, microdermabrasion can minimize enlarged pores, comedons, blackheads, and superficial acne scars.
Is it right for you?
Due to the nature of the biology behind this technique, one treatment is insufficient to attain great results. For maximum benefit, we suggest 6 to 8 treatments at 8 to 15 day intervals.
Patients who experience the following symptoms are not recommended for microdermabrasion: lesions, eczema, psoriasis, inflammatory acne or pustules, herpes simplex (i.e. cold sores), active rosecea, warts, auto immune system disorders, HIV, hepatitis, and severe diabetes. Also, microdermabrasion is not recommended for people who have been prescribed anticoagulants, have had recent chemical peels or laser treatments, or use Accutane or any anti-acne medication.
